Healthy School Lunch Policy
To further the aim of promoting health in Camolin N.S. we will be introducing a healthy lunch policy, which will become effective from December 6th 2004. From that date each child is expected to bring in a healthy lunch every day. Of those families surveyed, a high number were in favour of introducing a healthy lunch policy in the school and from the feedback that we have received we believe that the policy will be a success.
We believe that a healthy eating pattern encouraged at an early age will benefit the pupils of the school in the immediate future and will stay with them in their teenage and adult lives. In order to achieve this we ask for the co-operation of all pupils, parents and teachers.
A healthy lunchbox includes a piece of food from the first four shelves of the food pyramid which each family will get a copy of each year. An example of a healthy lunch might be: a sandwich, a yogurt, some pieces of fruit and a drink of milk, juice or indeed water.
A healthy eating pack will be sent home with this policy to each family.
A list of recommended foods was sent home with the policy guidelines and is printed overleaf. The Department of Health and Children compiled this list.
Foods that are not recommended include the following:
Fizzy drinks, sweets, bars, chocolate, biscuits, and crisps.
(These may be allowed on special occasions)
To encourage the pupils to try their best during the week we will allow one treat-size bar on Fridays.
We will review the policy in the last term of each school year.
This now constitutes our school lunch policy and will take effect from Monday December 6th, 2004.
