6th September 2011

Welcome back to all our pupils and we look forward to a happy and productive school year. We hope you all had a restful summer. Welcome to our new pupils and parents. This is our first newsletter of the 2011/12 school year.

New pupils:
We extend a warm welcome to all our new pupils. Our new junior infants are Kai Kinsella, Elizabeth Tully, Ava Collins, Matthew Cullen, Amy Carton, Matthew Brennan, Conall Dunne, Ava Kenny, Sreelaksky Bino, Anthony Moore, Kate James, Hannah Timmons, Ella McCann, Noah James and Abbie Furlong. We have also some new pupils throughout the school: Joy Freeney in Senior Infants, James Norton in 2nd class and April Freeney and Sarah Wiers in 6th class. We hope they will all be very happy in Camolin N.S.

Book rental:
The book rental fee remains the same at €50 for the year and is now due. Please contact me in the strictest confidence if you have difficulty paying.

Voluntary contribution:
The voluntary contribution remains at €80 for the year, €30 for term 1, €25 for term 2 and €25 for term 3, or €2 per week. We appreciate very much all efforts to make this contribution in these difficult economic times and the money raised is a very important part of running the school.

Pupil insurance:
The pupil insurance forms are included with this newsletter. The cost of pupil insurance is €8 (for 24 hour cover) or €5 (for school hours only) for the year.

Road safety:
Please ensure that your child enters the school by the front gate and not the gate at the car park, for safety reasons. Parents are asked not to park in front of the gate so that staff cars may enter without obstruction.

Contact details for parents:

If there are any changes to the contact details that you have already given the school (e.g. new mobile number, new emergency contact person etc) please contact the school with the new details. You can email any new details to info@camolinns.ie or contact Lucy in the office (9 to 12 each morning).

School Mass:
A school mass to mark the beginning of a new school year will be held next Wednesday 14th September in Camolin Church. Mass will start at 9.30 a.m. and all parents are welcome to attend.

Mobile library:
As you may be aware, the Wexford County Council mobile library has been providing a service to the school every second Friday. Children from 1st to 6th classes visit the van and are allowed to borrow books. Following a safety audit, the County Council have informed us that they will no longer enter the school car park as the gate is too narrow for the van to enter safely. We have agreed to widen the gate, and in the meantime, the library van will park right in front of the gate for the children to enter and exit the van safely. The van will be parked there from 1.45 every second Friday (commencing on Friday 9th September).

Coaching for GAA:
GAA coaching for all classes will start again on Thursday 15th September. Our coaches this term will be Darren Stamp and Stephen Doyle. They will be with us until Halloween (and maybe a bit longer) and they will be concentrating on football skills.

School tracksuits/school jackets/polo shirts:
Another order will be placed for school tracksuits, jackets and polo shirts on Friday 16th September. Please place an order with Lucy before this date if you require any.

Healthy Lunches:
Please continue to send in healthy lunches with your children. A small treat (a small bar) is allowed on Fridays only.

School Attendance:
It is vital that pupils make a full attendance at school each year. We are obligated to report pupils who have missed twenty days or more during the year to the National Education Welfare Board. Parents will be notified when their child has missed fifteen days of school.

Notes to explain absences:
Please remember to send a quick explanatory note to your child's teacher if they have missed a day (or days) in school. The homework journals have a place where such notes can be written. If a note is not received all absences must be recorded as 'unexplained'.

Mise le Meas,
Aileen Doyle (Principal)
